Sudhagad Fort, originally known as Bhorapgad, is a massive hilltop fort located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra.
With its origins believed to date back to ancient times, the fort has played an important role in Maharashtra's history. It was captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1657 and renamed Sudhagad.
The fort's vast and relatively flat plateau made it an attractive strategic location and it was even considered as a possible capital of the Maratha Empire before Raigad was selected.
Today, Sudhagad is a beautiful trekking destination offering a mix of history, temples, fort architecture, lush greenery, and panoramic Sahyadri views.
